Master Artist Visit
Yesterday, Laura Moriarty came to Villetta to give an artist talk and visit residents’ studios. She gave an insightful presentation about her work and how it evolved to what she does today, and included stories of her installations at various residencies and museums. Laura makes sculptural paintings that resonate with geology. Their forms, colors, textures and patterns activate the same processes that shape and reshape the earth: heating and cooling, erosion, subduction, friction, enfolding, weathering, slippage.
We enjoyed listening to her process and her great advice about creating art in general. Below is a link to a video of her creating one of her sculptural paintings out of wax. Check out her website!
