In May we welcomed Peter Prendergast who visited us from Ireland in order to gain a greater insight into the residency practices of the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild!
Peter is a curator and arts manager from Dublin, Ireland and came to us on the back of a research trip to Canada (funded by the Thomas Dammann Junior Memorial Trust ) where he was researching visual arts organizations and carrying out studio visits. Specific to this research was an interaction with organizations in Montreal and Toronto. Peter is co-founder and Director of an artist run project in Dublin called Monster Truck Gallery and Studios.
Our Artists in Residency program went on two field trips this week! On Sunday, we went to Opus 40, where the 2nd Annual Holistic Psychic and Music Festival took place. We enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds, visiting the museum, and live music and vendors.
Second field trip was lead by master artist Keiko Sono. We visited the Woodstock School of Art, Woodstock Framing Gallery, Woodstock Artists’ Association Museum (WAAM), Center for Photography at Woodstock, Shop Little House, and the Elena Zang Gallery. The hosts graciously shared some history of their organizations along with their personal journeys through the art world.
